Community Research Advisory Council Planning Meeting 6/25/09

Discussion Items

1. The Community Engagement Consultation Report was discussed.
2. Lee Bone provided an overview of the University of Pittsburgh's Community Research Advisory Board which included:
   • Membership composition (community leaders, community based organizations, advocacy groups), meeting frequency (quarterly), and format (evening, dinner, presentations from researchers and community), and location (hotel).
3. The Advisory Council mission statement and objectives were reviewed. The group decided to make revisions to the research focus (expand beyond health disparities), scope of services, and to add a definition of community.
4. Crystal Evans and Lee Bone prepared a timeline that will be used to help monitor progress and help with delegation of responsibilities.
5. Lee Bone discussed potential community leaders/stakeholders that might be interested in joining the Council. The group will work together to develop a nomination list.
6. Questions were raised regarding funding and staff support. At this point, Crystal Evans and her staff member will provide administrative leadership and expenses will be covered through the Community Engagement Outreach Budget managed by Dr. Constantine Lyketsos/Crystal Evans.
7. Nancy Kass suggested that the group develop a plan to work with existing advisory boards at JHU (e.g. Asthma/Alzheimer's/Environmental Justice).

Next Steps

1. Advisory Council Plan (mission/objectives) will be revised.
2. Crystal Evans will email the revised plan to Gerald Stacy for posting on WIKI by 7/2/09.
3. Crystal Evans will work with the team to develop a timeline and goals.
